Interior design, scandinavian lighting
New products from Lightyears translate the visionary ideas of Danish designers Cecilie Manz and Komplot Design into accessible lighting.
Lightyears Caravaggio Matt pendant lamp represents the natural development of the firm’s successful Caravaggio series. Caravaggio is the work of talented young designer Cecilie Manz, who has proved to be a master at blending technology and design. Since its launch in 2005, the Caravaggio range has become known and loved for its distinctive and dramatic figure. The distinctive red cord and the polished surface clearly highlight one of the most striking pendant designs of the 2000s.
With the new Caravaggio Matt model, Cecilie Manz has added a new style and a new look to the simple and timeless design. The well-known design is now available in three attractive matt shades that allow the pure lines and soft shapes of the design speak for themselves. The completely matt finish adds a rare depth and tangibility to the shade, imbuing it with a warm, cosy feel. The delicate whites and greys are finely balanced and interact neatly with each other if you choose to mix the pendants in your interior design solution. The grey tones are timeless and suit more-or-less all settings. It is available in three sizes:
– P1 (diameter 165mm);
– P2 (diameter 257mm);
– P3 (diameter 400mm) in white, light grey (Grey25) and a darker grey (Grey45).
Calabash pendants – inspired by Mother Nature
In their work to create the first series of lights for Lightyears, the Komplot designers Boris Berlin and Poul Christiansen were inspired by the greatest creator and source of inspiration in the world: Mother Nature.
The harmonious and simple form of the Calabash pendant is (naturally) inspired by the Calabash pumpkin, which originally stems from the tropics and has been used in households – as bowls, water containers, musical instruments, etc. – for centuries. The inspiration for the finish on the Calabash model came from Anish Kapoor’s formidable “Cloud gate” sculpture, which has been fascinating visitors to the Millennium Park in Chicago since 2004. The spectacular polished surfaces reflect the light’s surroundings and involve the observer in the design itself.
Calabash is authentic craftsmanship from the core to the surface. The organic design idiom and the special chromed and slightly changeable surface provide Calabash with a unique expression. The three pendant sizes – dia. 158, 224 and 340 mm – present the same easily recognisable shape, although without being identical. The black, closely woven textile cord creates a neat contrast to the lively chromed surface, which is available in black, silver, gold and red. The Calabash pendant generates a warm atmosphere and looks excellent in small groups. The pendants are ideal for café environments, restaurants, shops, etc. and in private homes whose owners wish to make a spectacular and rewarding contribution to their interior design.
Both Caravaggio and Calabash belong to a large collection of luminaires introduced by Lightyears, a young Danish outfit that collaborates with renowned designers in developing lighting objects that fuse functionality and aesthetics with innovation.
